More jobs in San Diego were added last month as the city's unemployment rate declined.

During September, the San Diego-Carlsbad-San Marcos area saw its unemployment rate decrease from 10.4 percent to 10.2 percent, which is still slightly higher than the national unemployment rate of 9.8 percent. Prior to September, the area hadn't seen its unemployment rate decrease since April, when it went from 9.5 percent to 9.2 percent.

The area had a total non-farm employment of 1,241,600 workers during September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 1,240,700 workers during August, but a 4 percent decrease from last year.

Three industries saw an increase in monthly employment during September, including education and health services by 1,400 jobs, other services by 600 jobs and government by 4,900 jobs. The construction industry saw the biggest loss of jobs when compared to last year, employing 65,800 workers, which is down from 66,400 workers during August and a 13.4 percent decrease from last year.
