Three companies will soon receive federal funding to take green initiatives and create more
Milwaukee jobs.
Gov. Jim Doyle recently announced that three companies in the
Milwaukee area will receive $3.1 million from the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the
State Energy Program to invest in manufacturing equipment and create 276 new green jobs.
Helios USA, a start-up manufacturer, will receive $1 million to produce solar panels for residential and commercial applications. The company will invest more than $8 million for equipment and working capital and plans to create 54 new jobs.
Start-up manufacturer Nature Tech, LLC will receive $800,000 to create energy efficient cellulose insulation from recycled newsprint. The company will invest more than $3 million on that project and plans to create 47 new jobs.
ZBB Energy Corporation will receive $1.3 million to expand the company's advanced battery products manufacturing. The company plans to invest $4.5 million for equipment and working capital, while retaining 26 jobs and creating 175 additional positions.
The program funding, which is awaiting approval from the U.S.
Department of Energy, is administered by the
Wisconsin Department of Commerce. The organization gives priority to projects that reduce fossil fuel use in manufacturing by creating renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies; enable businesses to produce components of renewable energy systems and energy efficient products; and invest in renewable energy projects.
"Wisconsin has a tremendous opportunity to
be a leader in clean energy," Doyle said. "With these funds, we will help these companies not only create hundreds of new green jobs in Milwaukee, but also manufacture renewable energy and energy efficient products."
Doyle has called for the
State of Wisconsin to generate 25 percent of its electricity and 25 percent of its transportation fuels from renewable resources by 2025. If that goal is achieved, the state would capture 10 percent of the renewable energy market share by 2015.
